We were waiting for Nokia X2 to launch in Pakistan as desperately as we were for original Nokia X. Reason was simple – with Nokia X2, Nokia for once achieved perfect balance of OS, Specs, Price and Looks, for the budget markets at least.
We bought it as soon as it was available, and said our good buys to Nokia X. Nokia X2 is practically what Nokia X or at least X+ should have been to emboss “Nokia” prominently on the map of Android World.
In Pakistan Nokia X2 is available at Price range from Rs.14,000 to Rs.15,400. Online sites are asking more so I suggest you to step out to shops for good bargain.
Nokia X2 has improved hardware components from screen size to processor, ram and gpu. Performance is top notch for a mid-range Android machine of dual-core power.
On software side Nokia X platform 2.0 is based on Android 4.3. You will notice proper multitasking specially during Internet browsing right from the start and performance has been increased significantly. And yes there is a But – But Nokia and Microsoft Mobile are not ready to show love for Google apps, nor Whatsapp got any support till the time of writing.
Let’s get down to details.
1GB Ram is main highlight for me in Nokia X2, along with 1.2ghz Dual-core processor from Qualcomm 200 A7 generation and Adreno 302 GPU for gaming and graphics. I have not experienced heating issue as we all had with Nokia X.
What does that mean? Average Smartphone users will enjoy a whole lot smoother Android experience than they might have any other dual core budget Android devices. Games that are made to run on dual-cores are performing better. Experience of surfing heavy websites is pleasant. Switching apps back and forth is quicker. Gaming is entertaining.
But remember not to compare performance of dual-core against quad-core Androids.
480×800 resolution that has been spread across 4.3 inches IPS display and Nokia’s ClearBlack are packed under the protection of Scratch-resistance glass. Viewing under direct sunlight can be a pain even at full brightness but basic functions like calling or texting are done with ease.
Personally I don’t care whatever people talk about DPIs but I am happy as long as I see things clearly with comfort. On papers dpi of Nokia X2 is low but in practical uses including Internet Browsing, Watching movies and Mobile Games the display is doing its job beautifully and this is all I asked for in this price.
It is on Nokia’s trusted and tested material. Nokia X2 is solid in hands, it is beautiful machine. An almost transparent layering on top of a solid color block adds a shine or Glow as Nokia has been calling it gives a unique feel to entire device.
Nokia X2 is larger from Nokia X in every way, inside and out. Height, length, thickness and in weight but handset is not bulky.
Surface of Nokia X2 is glossy and slightly slippery but good enough to securely hold in a grip.
Nokia X Software Platform 2.0 and UI
Android 4.3 Jellybean is powering Nokia X2. Nokia did their modification into OS as Nokia X Software Platform 2.0. You cannot use Google Apps other than Google Maps and Google Earth (or perhaps a few more I don’t know about yet). Basically any app or game, which required Google Account in System to start will not work with Nokia Droids.
Nokia X2 improves UI, added must and most wanted App Switcher, Notification in drop down drawer and an extra capacitive Home button next to Back button.
Long press on Back button brings App Switcher on the screen from where we can close running apps or switch between them.
On left of home screen we have our addictive FastLane, and on right of home screen we have another new addition – Apps list. All the installed apps are listed here.
You can always add or Pin your most frequent apps on the home screen and change their colors or size. You can collect apps in groups/folders at home screen.
Android 4.3 improved multitasking to a great deal, specially in website browsing.
I cannot tell if the 5mp camera of Nokia X2 is better than camera in XL, but the results are placed for you to see. And if you like what you see then it is good.
Flash light is good. For video chatters the VGA camera is on the front too.
All in all, I like Nokia X2 way too much than I was expecting, to be honest. I think this is a device I want to buy one more and root with regular Google Android because of my personal and important required apps.
My use of tablet is drop ever since I bought X2 and that didn’t happen when I had my other Android phones, including Nokia X.
